European Commission approves “WATER AND WATER INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT IN BUZAU COUNTY, IN THE PERIOD 2014-2020”
On June 9, 2022, “THE PROJECT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF WATER AND WASTEWATER INFRASTRUCTURE IN BUZĂU COUNTY, IN THE PERIOD 2014-2020”, was approved by the European Commission. This project will be funded through the Large Infrastructure Operational Program 2014-2020 (POIM).
The project has a total estimated value of 358,685,777 Euros (current prices, including VAT), and by the decision of the European Commission of 09.06.2022, over 127 million Euros were approved, the rest to be included in the next Operational Program.
By financing and implementing this project, Buzau County ensures compliance with the provisions of Directive 98/83 / EC regarding water quality by expanding / rehabilitating water supply systems in localities in the county, as well as compliance with the provisions of Directive 91/271 / EEC by improving the collection and treatment of wastewater from agglomerations of more than 2,000 equivalent inhabitants.
Following the studies carried out at the level of the feasibility study, the general scheme of the operating area in Buzău County was completely reconfigured. Therefore, non-compliant sources were eliminated and it was proposed to rehabilitate existing / new sources (57 new extraction points and 4 rehabilitated sources). Thus, the drinking water distribution network in the area is to be extended by 135 km from the new network, to which is added the rehabilitation of another 89 km. At the same time, 103 km of new supply networks and the rehabilitation of another 17 km are proposed to ensure water supply, as well as the construction of 23 water treatment plants.
Regarding the sewage treatment, the agglomeration limits were reanalyzed and the optimal solutions for the transfer of wastewater to the existing treatment plants and the 4 proposed new treatment plants were selected. The investments also include the construction of 446 km of new sewerage network, 81 km of discharge pipes and the rehabilitation of another 5 km.
A dehydrated sludge drying plant was also proposed within the existing Buzau treatment plant in order to treat and recover the sludge.
