On 18.03.2022, the European Commission approved the “Regional project for the development of water and wastewater infrastructure in Sibiu and Brașov counties, in the period 2014-2020”. The project is implemented by SC Apa Canal SA Sibiu.
Thus, the first stage of this project, worth 84.26 million euros, will be financed under the Large Infrastructure Operational Program (POIM).
The total value of the investments amounts to approximately 220 million euros, the difference will be ensured by the Operational Program Sustainable Development 2021-2027.
The project will provide funds for investments in the development of water and wastewater infrastructure in 24 administrative-territorial units, of which 18 in Sibiu County and 6 in Brasov County.
The following ATUs will benefit from the investments provided by POIM in Sibiu County: Sibiu, Șelimbăr, Cisnădie, Sadu, Rășinari, Roșia, Sura Mică, Ocna Sibiului, Miercurea Sibiului, Șura Mare, Slimnic, Săliște, Tilișca, Avrig, Racovița, Roata , Sibiu County Council. In Brașov County, the following ATUs will benefit from the investments provided by POIM: Făgăraș, Lisa, Voila, Recea, Mandra, Beclean, Brașov County Council.
The project approved by the European Commission will increase the level of collection and treatment of urban wastewater and will ensure the supply of drinking water to the population by:
- rehabilitation of the water source;
- rehabilitation and expansion of transport mains, including drinking water storage tanks for chlorine and pumping stations;
- rehabilitation and expansion of drinking water distribution networks;
- rehabilitation and expansion of wastewater collection systems;
- new / rehabilitated treatment plant;
- SCADA surveillance and control systems;
- treatment and recovery of dehydrated sludge.
This success is due to the intense work and collaboration of a working team consisting of Romair Consulting consultants, the Water Operator team SC Apa Canal SA Sibiu, representatives of the Managing Authority for the Large Infrastructure Operational Program, representatives of Jaspers assistance, but also others experts co-opted in this project.
