Protection and rehabilitation of the southern part of the romanian coast of the Black Sea

The general objective of the service contract was to provide technical assistance services for management and supervision of the implementation of prevention and protection works against coastal erosion of the Romanian Black Sea coast in Mamaia Sud, Tomis Nord, Tomis Centru, Tomis Sud and Eforie Nord, according to the provisions of the works contracts concluded by the Beneficiary with the Contractors and in accordance with the provisions of the applicable legislation.

The service contract included 2 main activities:

• Technical assistance for project management;
• Technical assistance for the supervision of the works.

The benefits of the project include reducing the risk of flooding and erosion of properties in the vicinity of the cliffs that will enjoy approximately 278,000 inhabitants and the benefits of an extensive beach for 32,000 tourists, as well as construction and restoration of dams on a length of 12,800 meters, widening beaches. with 330,000 square meters, the widening of the beaches by 100 meters compared to the existing one in 2013. The project benefits the 122 identified economic operators and will generate 250 temporary and 10 permanent jobs.

The works provide for the execution of new structures, rehabilitation / demolition / extension of existing ones, as well as artificial re-sanding of beaches, all being designed to ensure stability over a period of 50 years.

As physical indicators, the project included:

• Rehabilitation / extension / construction of 15 embankments
• Rehabilitation / extension / construction of 7 submerged dams
• Widening of beaches up to a width of 100 m, located at 2.5 – 3 m above sea level
• Sanding works with over 3,477,442.47m3 sand brought from the Black Sea
