Feasibility study on the rehabilitation of the Cahul agricultural surface drainage system (Republic of Moldova)
The general objective of the project is fully reflected in the mentioned title and the agricultural area to be rehabilitated is over 6,500 ha.
The experts involved in the project activities had the following tasks:
- Field studies – topographic, geotechnical, hydraulic and studies on the state of land lots; Analysis of historical data on drainage structures / system and existing irrigation infrastructure;
- Analysis of the current state of the drainage system in the project area;
- Elaboration of hydraulic studies and hydrological calculations (tributary watercourse, surface waters, groundwater, water collector) for the study area;
- Analysis of options – including cost allocation (capital costs, maintenance costs, exploration costs, income, estimated income of the Association of Local Water Users, legal entity that manages the proposed drainage system for rehabilitation);
- Risk analysis and risk mitigation plan – including natural and anthropogenic factors;
- Economic analysis for 3 (three) proposed scenarios;
- Preparation of the environmental report and the report on the impact of the works on the environment.
